Homeland of wine (Unknown)
Tbilisi-Dedoplistskaro-Tbilisi
We will be visiting Kakheti, the region in Georgia where wine originated. Georgia has a long history of viticulture and winemaking, with evidence dating back to the Neolithic period. Our journey will take us through vineyards, agricultural fields, and gardens. Our first stop will be in the village of Badiauri, which is known for its bread baking and cheese making traditions. We will then continue to the small town of Dedoplistskaro, located in the southeast part of Georgia. The name “Dedoplistskaro” translates to “The Spring of the Queen”. This part of the region is located off the main highway, which is why it is often skipped by tourists. Our first visit will be to the Eagle Gorge natural monument, where we will be able to enjoy views of the great Caucasus mountains and agricultural fields spread along Kakhetian valleys (if weather permits). Afterwards, we will visit the Elia Monastery, located on a hill in a semi-desert. The monastery was built recently with the help of local residents and it is known for its mystical legends about a pagan god “Elia”. After that, we will visit a local family to see how the locals live, and enjoy a homemade lunch with homemade wine.
